Only one purchase today, a big bunch of kale at New World for $2.80. saved $1.20.
I'm disappointed with Financially Free. It has a little bit about saving and budgeting but mostly about prosperity thinking and acting rich to be rich. A jobless person who's about to get their lights cut off might get the impression they just need to tell themselves "I deserve to be rich", go off on holiday and the money will miraculously materialise. I recommend Stop Acting Rich by Tom Stanley as an antidote.

I can say that I'm not exactly in the jobless category and have just graduated past paycheck to paycheck living, and I am hoping to be able to get on a vacation in October with my family. It's important to us for quality time and we are trying to plan to do so economically. We don't have credit cards, so it's all cash. I don't think I "deserve" to be rich and would do so - that is a very dangerous mindset. But, I believe in the value of a vacation and quality family time (that doesn't align with some Dave Ramsey folks who don't vacation till all debt is gone, etc). Our medical debt remains a mountain to climb, and I don't think I'll sacrifice making memories to pay it off. A cancer diagnosis has a way of changing your priorities. And DH's diagnosis was so minimal compared to others' battles. I'll have to check out the Tom Stanley read!
