Just like the government

October 14th, 2010 at 06:46 am

It's official. According to Mr Bill English, he what hold the nation's moneybags, the economy is slow to recover because people are saving money instead of spending. Guilty as charged, your honour. He went on to say that under current circumstances it behooves the govt to be fiscally responsible and not go on a big spendup. Okay, so it's important for the govt to balance its budget - and they want me to go into debt to buy stuff? I'm only doing with my cash what the Treasury does.

Oh, what a windbag! Well, it's not just there in NZ... I remember government wonks saying the same kinds of things here in the States to try to get people to spend the money to lead us out of the recession. There is no insurance that the governments will actually control spending, so I reckon the only safeguard is to make sure that we do! Good luck down there...
