Look after the pennies

October 2nd, 2010 at 07:01 am

and the pounds will look after themselves was one of grandma's most frequent sayings. Today I frugalled thusly:

line dried the washing
roasted the seeds from a pumpkin instead of buying them from the health food store at umpteen dollars for a tiny packet
picked up .20 cents from beside a parking meter
decided not to buy a nz$2 top from the charity shop.

Nice work. I always find that the home roasted pumpkin seeds taste heartier than those from the shop, anyway, and they definitely lead to savings! I also think that line-dried clothes (if you are in a clean area outdoors) offer some insurance of energy savings and better smelling laundry.

    1. Home roased are likely MUCH lower in sodium too
    2. Took donation items to charity shop Friday and spent NOTHING but getting tax advantage deduction for value

Good job...I am a believer in fixing stuff at home to lower the sodium and preservatives.

We eat a lot of butternut squash and like to roast those seeds as well. Some people I know just refer to butternut as pumpkin, anyway.

Joan--I didn't know you could roast squash seeds? I've always wondered that!
