Wasted money

March 30th, 2009 at 07:05 am

I din't take any snacks with me and when I got hungry I spent nz1.80 on a piece of ginger crunch. I'm supposed to be watching my weight as well. At least I could have bought an apple.

I know it's not much, but I find it too easy to rationalize little spendy habits by telling myself just this once. It all adds up, and every unnecessary dollar I spend takes me a dollar further away from being financially independent.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Tina. What's important is whether you savored and enjoyed that indulgence. These little treats, if they are enjoyed consciously, can be part of the sensual wonder of life.

I still remember a delightfully crunchy experience of really savoring a piece of excellent buttery toffee. I was totally present to it and not mindlessly wolfing it down. It might have been extravagant and calorie laden, but it is still a memory that makes me smile. And it's just an occasional treat for me, like a couple of times of year.

Hmmm, wonder where I could find ginger crunch in the US? I've never seen it here.
