We are having brilliant hot weather this month. Unfortunately it also means there are lots of wasps around. Australian ones with a very nasty sting. I found 2 nests in my garden and rang the pest exterminator, but he is so busy he couldn't come for a few days. A woman in my church told me to get rid of them by pouring gasoline on them. So this evening when it was dark and they were all in the nest, I sneaked out with a funnel and a pint of gas and poured it in. Hope it works, as it's certainly a lot cheaper than paying someone to do it.

They never came back.
I read somewhere that if you put a glass bowl over their hole that they don't try to dig out and they will starve to death. Never tried it myself, but it sounds plausible.

I usually get stung at least once each summer when i run my lawnmower over a wasp nest. It's a nasty sting with swelling that lasts a week! But like tightwad kitty, it's pretty easy to use a can of wasp killer spray in the evening, when all the wasps are in the nest. These sprays are designed to spray a long distance so you don't have to get up too close. Good luck. Wear protective clothing, like a vinyl type raincoat and head protection if you can, just in case. Your neighbors may wonder, but what the heck.
