Delicate subject

September 9th, 2012 at 02:23 am

I was running low on toilet paper so went to the supermarket. The cheapest 2ply was $nz8.16 for 24 rolls and $3.99 for 12 rolls. So I bought 2 12packs. Yay! a saving of 18 cents.

I always get the giggles when buying tp because of the story a friend tells about his housemate who was so cheap he went down the road to use the public convenience rather than buy his own tp. And my own granddad put a brick in the tank to save water when he flushed. I have also met an Aussie who did this but he was from the outback where water is scarce.

Geez, going to the public restroom just to save money?! Crazy!
On the other hand, in the days of the larger tank toliets lots of us here in the US put brickes etc to take up space in the tank. Now we've got "low flow" models that use way less water.

I think putting a brick or other item of that size in the tank to displace water is not cheap, it's thrifty, and smart! If you think of how many times a day you flush that toilet, it's an easy target for saving money.

The thing is, he wasn't actually saving money. Our water is not metered, just a standard rate per household.

Some things are worth doing even if they don't save money. Conservation of limited natural resources is one, I think.
