The price of rice

February 27th, 2015 at 05:17 am

The cheapest rice I have found sells at $5.99 for 5 kg. White rice. I buy brown rice at $1.69 for 1 kg, but the price has just increased by .30 cents. The 5 kg bags of brown work out more expensive, besides brown rice doesn't keep as long as white. Strict budgeting suggests i should buy the cheapest white, but brown is more nutritious and my health is more important than saving money. So I will carry on buying the same brand until i find a better bargain.

Until recently, Thailand was the world's largest supplier of rice. It has now been overtaken by Vietnam. If you have an Asian marketplace in your community, seek brown rice as the price should be better. It costs more because the demand is low

I think the taste is much better with brown rice too. Can eat it on its own :-)

Your price for 1kg, is pretty good compared to what I pay on the west coast of Aust - and we're so close to Asia. The price of being the most isolated capital city I guess!

My state in the middle of North America grows rice on river plains which formerly were swamp forest, but it costs more than rice imported from the other side of the globe.
